Emphasis on Environment

Since we were children we’ve been told how important it is that we work hard, choose our friends wisely, and be kind.
More than likely, you have and are doing your best to live up to the standards set by your parents. But how often do you consider your environment? You know, your surroundings. I’m not referring to where you sleep. I mean where you think.
Words have power. Once you’ve heard something, you can’t unhear it. This is where the problem begins. Our brain involuntarily repeats what registers. This is why keeping the environment between our ears uncluttered and positive is imperative. Can you recall something negative that was said to you by a particular person more vividly than a compliment? That isn’t a coincidence. We all have at least one character trait, physical attribute or other flaw that we wish we could change. When we focus too much on what we’ve identified as an issue, any detrimental thing we hear connects.
Have you ever wondered how to change your focus?
Philippians 4:8 says, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Most often, the challenge in changing our brain environment is consistency. We have to reinforce the right thoughts while disavowing the condemnatory and derogatory ones. We tend to entertain negative thoughts far longer than we do positive ones.
This is where we need God’s help. Thankfully, He’s given us His Word that is overflowing with His thoughts towards us. These are what we need to rehearse out loud on a daily basis. We must agree with what He thinks of us, how He sees us and His plans for our futures.
